Dr. Michael Tefs will begin his three-year contract on July 1

Dr. Micheal Tefs

(May 1, 2021) – The Revere Board of Education has hired Dr. Michael Tefs as the district’s new Superintendent. The Board voted unanimously to hire Dr. Tefs during a special Board meeting this morning. Dr. Tefs is the current Superintendent of Wooster City Schools in Wooster, Ohio.

“We knew we needed to move quickly to find a new leader, given the time of year,” said Revere Board President Keith Malick. “We had many great applicants, but a few candidates quickly rose to the top, including Dr. Tefs. Given his extensive educational experience as a leader, we decided to expedite our search even more to make sure we could secure his place in our district.”

Malick said the information collected through staff and community focus groups provided the Board with the qualities and characteristics Revere wanted to see in its next Superintendent.

“I am honored to join the Revere Schools professional learning community,” said Dr. Michael Tefs, incoming Revere Superintendent. “Together, we will continue the impressive vision work of Dr. Montgomery and the Board of Education. I am eager to meet the school community and build capacity for a collaborative and distributive leadership model. I’m in awe of the intellectual capital and pedagogical practices of the school system. It will be fun to actualize and embed the newly approved Vision of a Minuteman and the developing strategic plan into daily practice. I am confident that, together, we will continue the Revere excellence and build academic pathways that enable our students to realize their dreams and aspirations.”

Dr. Tefs has been the Wooster Superintendent since June 2008. Prior to that time, he was the Superintendent in North Ridgeville City Schools and the Assistant Superintendent in the Wadsworth City School District. He also has served as a Director of Curriculum, Principal and Assistant Principal. Dr. Tefs began his career as a science teacher.

Dr. Tefs will be given a three-year contract and will begin his position at Revere on July 1. He also will be given several days in June to work with Dr. Matthew Montgomery to make for a seamless transition.

Dr. Montgomery has accepted a position as Superintendent with Lake Forest Schools, a suburb of Chicago. He has been the Superintendent of Revere Local since 2015.

A reception for Dr. Tefs to meet Revere’s staff and community will take place this summer. Information with details will be forthcoming.
