Ten Revere Seniors Named National Merit Semifinalists;
State Report Cards Shows Revere Meets All 24 Standards
(September 12, 2019) – Ten Revere High School seniors have been named National Merit Semifinalists. Revere Local has the second-highest number of National Merit Semifinalists this year among all public school districts in Northeast Ohio, finishing second only to Solon.
The academically talented students now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for a chance to receive a National Merit Scholarship.
The ten students are: Michael Tomechko, Samantha Ma, Keri Tomechko, Nova Meng, Ramy El-Assal, Jacob Roose, Matthew Zhou, William Marchetta, Thomas Li and Dane Donich.
These seniors represent less than one-percent of the country's high school seniors. The semifinalists are the state's highest-scoring students on the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
State Report Cards
The Ohio Report Cards for 2019 released September 12 shows Revere is again the only district in Summit County to meet all 24 state standards. The district also advanced from a B to an A in the Gap Closing component grade. The Gap Closing shows how well districts and schools are meeting the performance expectations for all students.
“I continue to be pleased with the results of the state tests, which are a reflection of the hard work of our staff and students,” said Matthew L. Montgomery, Superintendent of Revere Local. “Test scores are just one way to evaluate how we educate our students. We will soon be working on the district’s new Strategic Plan which will help us prepare for our future goals.”
The district earned a “B” as its overall grade on the state report card.
