Revere Local Schools Installs Vape Detectors to Combat Teen Use

(September 4, 2019) – The Revere Local School District has installed 16 vape detectors for the 2019-20 school year to make sure students are not vaping while on campus. The detectors are at Revere High School, Revere Middle School and the Field House.

The detectors, purchased through a state grant, pick up on chemicals released while vaping.  School authorities are then quickly alerted to the location when the chemicals are detected.

E-cigarettes and vaping products have been under intense scrutiny by the Centers for Disease Control after hundreds of cases of a lung illnesses have been reported recently.

Students caught on Revere’s campus distributing, purchasing or using vaping devices may be removed from class and suspended.

The installed sensors also detect decibel level anomalies, which could indicate a problem, such as bullying.  No video or actual audio is recorded.
