Revere Middle School Students Earn Top Honors in Regional Holocaust Writing Competition

Richfield, Ohio — Revere Middle School students have been recognized for their outstanding writing in the 38th Annual Akron-Summit Holocaust & Genocide Arts and Writing Contest, hosted by the Akron-Summit Council on Holocaust and Genocide Education.

Four Revere students earned top placements in the Division I Writing category:

  • First Place: Ava Wells — Light and Hope Where None Was Meant to Be
  • Second Place (tie): Emma Childs — Mordecai Aneilewicz's Last Diary Entry
  • Second Place (tie): Remi Henry — In the Midst of the Dark There is Light
  • Third Place: Mallory Beskid — Enough for One More Day

In addition, many students received Honorable Mention recognition for their submissions:

Aadhya Makkena, Alani Tomaneng, Andrea Karas, Anna Olsen, Ayla Nakiecevic, Connor Holet, Elinor Collins, Ella Fletcher, Emily Boykin, Emily Boykin, Eric Zhu, Gabriella Takla, Henry Burke, John Long, Keira Daugherty, Michael Jarden, Natalie DiSalvo, Ryan Tompkins & Ryan Tompkins

This year’s contest theme, Holocaust and Genocide: The Importance of Hope and Resistance, challenged students to reflect on historical events and express their understanding through writing.

Revere Local Schools is proud of these students and their accomplishments, recognizing the meaningful work they produced through this opportunity.

As a result of these achievements, Revere Middle School has received a $200 classroom resource award to support continued Holocaust and genocide education. Student winners will also be invited to attend an educational field trip to the Maltz Museum and Temple Mishkan Or in Beachwood, Ohio.

All recognized students will be honored at the Holocaust Commemoration and Awards Ceremony on April 14, 2026, at the Akron-Summit County Public Library in downtown Akron. The evening will include a presentation by Andrew Laszlo Jr., who will share the story of his father, a Holocaust survivor who later became a cinematographer.
