CC Trails (July 29, 2013)

WELCOME TO RMS CROSS-COUNTRY 2013

We would like to welcome all of you to the Revere Middle School Cross-Country team, especially those who are competing in the sport for the first time.  We look forward to working with all of you to help you achieve your own personal athletic goals.  I hope to make this cross-country season successful, rewarding and FUN!

Cross-country is a sport where EVERYONE participates.  Everyone runs the same two-mile course  (don’t worry, you can do it!) and we score based on our top five runners.  But it takes the ENTIRE team to make us a success!  It doesn’t matter if you are a runner who finishes first or last, everyone is important on this team.  Bring out a friend to the team.

 CROSS-COUNTRY INFORMATION:

Go to the Revere Web Site, click on “Minuteman Athletics”, click on “Cross Country”,  click on “Middle School CC Information”

Physical:

In order to participate in any sport at RMS, you MUST have an Athletic Participation/Physical Exam Form on file in the assistant principal’s office. All forms are available on the Revere web site.   Physicals are good for one year from the date of your doctor’s signature.  You must have this form turned into the school office before you can participate in a practice or meet.

Practice and Race Sites:

Practices are held at the Bath Community Center.  It is an excellent training site with wooded trails to run and lots of hills (I’m most excited about that last one!).  Our course is one of the toughest in the area and training on it makes you tougher!

Mandatory practice officially begins on Thursday, August 1

Practices prior to the start of school will be held Monday - Friday from 8:30 - 10:00 a.m. at Bath Community Center (BCC) on Cleveland-Massillon Road.  PARENTS PLEASE PICK UP YOUR ATHLETE PROMPTLY AT 10:00 SO THE COACHES MAY GO HOME.

Once school begins we will take a bus to BCC after school just as we did last season. Practice after school ends at 4:30 p.m. Parents pick up their athletes promptly at 4:30 at BCC.

Weather:

Cross-country is run in all weather (We love mud!).  However, if there is lightning and we are at Bath Community Center, please pick your child up at the pavilion.  If the weather is threatening check this web site that morning to see if practice has been cancelled.

Equipment:

You will need a new pair of “running” shoes for the season.  Be sure to tell the person at the shoe store the sport you are going to be running in them.  You do not need to have a pair of “spikes”, but if you do you will need a pair of regular running shoes for practice.  I have a coupon from Second Sole running store in Merriman Valley. They are offering a great deal on shoes. It is also recommended that you have a good quality sport watch to time yourself on your runs and during your races.   BRING A WATER BOTTLE TO PRACTICE.

Meet Schedule:

Our competition begins in late August.  We will be participating in meets against other Suburban League schools on Tuesdays and at invitationals on Saturdays.  EVERY team member will be able to participate in every meet, including the invitationals with the exception of The Legends race which is for a team of our top 7 runners.  We are finalizing the schedule, but you will be running 5 regular meets and 4 invitationals.

Cross-Country Booster:

There is a $25.00 booster fee for the season.  This supplies all athletes with a custom T-shirt, Gatorade and snacks after each meet, and a post-season pizza party.

Uniforms and Sweats:

These are supplied by the school and will be issued prior to the first meet.

The time and hard work you put in this summer will pay off during the season.

This will be an exciting and fun year and we look forward to running with all of you!

Great week! Big sweep of a tough Woodridge team along with some tough workouts.
You shouldbe proud of yourselves. We have a big week in front of us.
We run against wadsworth on Tuesday and the first invitational of the season on Saturday.

Housekeeping:
  • If you are injured or feel any pain you must tell a coach right away.
  • If you think your injury might prevent you from running at practice
you must see  Coach Neubert that morning so he can determine
if need to go home or be at practice.
  • If you are going to miss a practice due to another obligation, such
as a soccer game, you must  see Coach Neubert the day before or
have your parents e-mail me the day before so we know why you
        are missing practice.
  •  It is your responsibility to make sure you have a ride pick you up at
4:30 after a practice. If there is a problem you have to make other
         arrangements to get home.
  • Tuesday is our first away meet. It is school policy that athletes must ride
the bus to AND FROM the meet. If there is an important reason you feel
your athlete can't ride the bus home from a meet (doctor's appointment,

WELCOME TO RMS CROSS-COUNTRY 2012

Mandatory practice officially begins on Monday, August 6.

Summer Training:

Optional practices: Coach Pappano and I will be hosting some “fun runs” during the summer  to help our team get ready for the season, keep you focused on running, and have some fun this summer, too. We will meeting at different sites around the Cuyahoga Valley to run and enjoy the trails this summer .These are OPTIONAL FUN RUNS, but we would strongly encourage you to attend as many as you can to get ready for the season. THE SITES, DAYS AND TIMES ARE TO BE DETERMINED WILL BE LISTED ON OUR SCHOOL WEB SITE BEGINNING IN JUNE. Parents are welcome to join us for a run or walk as well and enjoy some of the beautiful trails the Cuyahoga Valley has to offer.

We are coming off a very successful season. The team got there by training over the summer and coming into “camp” READY TO RUN. I expect those who want to be a part of this years winning team to run over the summer.

Beginner:       5-10 min per day                   3-4 days per week

Novice:           10 - 20 min per day               3-5 days per week

Advanced       15 - 30 min per day               5-6 days per week

Vary your runs (long, short, hills, flat, fast, slow)

I strongly recommend taking advantage of the abundance of hiking trails in the area.

Weather:

Cross-country is run in all weather (We love mud!).  However, if there is lightning and we are at Bath Community Center, please pick your child up at the pavilion.  If the weather is threatening call:

RMS CROSS-COUNTRY HOTLINE at (330) 659-6111 ext. 633520

Equipment:

You will need a new pair of “running” shoes for the season.  Be sure to tell the person at the shoe store the sport you are going to be running in them.  You do not need to have a pair of “spikes”, but if you do you will need a pair of regular running shoes for practice.

This supplies all athletes with a custom T-shirt, water bottle, Gatorade and snacks after each meet, and a post-season pizza party.

Uniforms and Sweats:

These are supplied by the school and will be issued prior to the first meet.

Summer Races:

There are some fun races I would like you to run this summer to introduce new runners to the sport and keep veterans focused on their training.  They are the “Kids are #1 Run” at Akron Children’s Hospital, the “Jim Klett Races” run and Davey Tree 5K. Let me know if any others you are doing.

The time and hard work you put in this summer will pay off during the season.

This will be an exciting and fun year and we look forward to running with all of you!
